The DEA was created in 1973 on the basis of the Federal Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs of the U.S. Department of Treasury and the Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement of the Department of Health, Education and Welfare. The mission of the DEA is to identify, investigate the activities of the most significant international drug groups.
During the visit of the US DEA delegation headed by Imeda Tsitsiashvili, the representative of US DEA in the Russian Federation, the American colleagues were provided with information on the procedure for organizing and conducting drug and psychotropic substances examinations, their precursors and analogues in the State Forensic Examination Committee. The American delegation was particularly interested in the order and speed of adding newly identified psychoactive substances to the list of controlled substances on the territory of the Republic of Belarus, as well as the work of experts of the State Committee on a proactive basis, this means that psychoactive substances are added to the list of prohibited substances, before their first emergence on the territory of the Republic of Belarus, this is understandable, because drug trafficking, their analogues and precursors, and drug abuse pose a serious threat to the health and well-being of countries around the world.
During the visit, the guests got acquainted with the work of some laboratories of the State Committee: drug and psychotropic substances examination laboratories, their precursors and analogues, petroleum products, examinations of materials, substances and items, highly appreciating the equipment of the laboratories and the professionalism of the experts.
Based on the mutual interest in countering the illicit drug and psychotropic substances trafficking, their precursors and analogues, the parties expressed their readiness to cooperate in this area. During the meeting preliminary agreements were reached and interest in further close cooperation and exchange of experience was expressed.
