The Belarusian delegation headed by the Deputy Chairman of the State Forensic Examination Committee Jurii Ovsiiuk took part in the ceremony of laying wraths and flowers to the sculpture ”Mother – Motherland“ at the Piskarevskoye Memorial Cemetery. The event was attended by the Deputy Chairman of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation Alexander Klaus, representatives of Investigative Committees of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus, participants of the search movement of the Leningrad region.
During the opening ceremony of the II meeting of representatives of search teams of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation the plenary session on main areas of work of the Headquarters for the coordination of search and archival work of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation was held. Jurii Ovsiiuk addressed the participants with a welcoming speech on behalf of the Chairman of the State Committee Major-General of Justice Alexey Volkov and noted the importance of holding this event, consolidating efforts in revealing the true face of fascism, restoring historical justice.
”The search and archival work on revealing all facts of that terrible war which took millions of lives of our fraternal peoples is constantly conducted on the territory of Russia and Belarus. We will continue this work for the sake of the eternal memory of the Great feat of our ancestors in the victory over fascism“, noted Jurii Ovsiiuk.
In his speech the Deputy Chairman spoke about the work done by the expert agency in the framework of the investigation of the criminal case on the genocide of the Belarusian people during the Great Patriotic War and post-war period and also drew attention to the fact that since the initiation of the criminal case the State Committee has done extensive work to establish facts indicating a deliberate policy of genocide against the population of Belarus which carried out by the Nazis throughout the entire period of occupation as well as to establish undeniable evidence of crimes against peaceful population.
Forensic experts examined hundreds of thousands of objects seized from mass graves of shot peaceful citizens. More than 240 various forensic examinations (traceological, genetic, technical examinations of documents, commodity examination, medical criminalistic examinations and ballistic examinations), the vast majority of which are medical criminalistic and ballistic examinations have been conducted.
The search movement has a special significance in the formation of civil awareness and military-patriotic upbringing of the population. The preservation of historical memory is an important task of modern society, which is aimed at combating the distortion and falsification of history.
